When will we get over the Color of One's Skin?
When will we get over the Color of One's Skin?
We recently found a past episode of ABC's "What would you do" that is kind of a microcosm of what has been happening lately concerning race in America. In the clip, there is a black guy who is dating a white girl, when the girl brings him to meet her father at a restaurant some interesting conversations happen from the other customers. The younger male white customers stand up for the black guy, which was interesting considering they are male; later in the clip you have two older white women who are totally against it. The oldest white woman is so against it that tears come to her eyes.
At one point, she tells the interviewer, who is mexican, that he would be ok since mexican's are still considered white. Some people, who commented on the video were shocked at that statement but if you go back in the 50's and 60's, light skinned mexican's were considered white by many.
